We must come together to find common sense solutions to serious problems affecting Americans without hindering new research, innovation, and job growth.
The only way to achieve American Exceptionalism for ALL Americans is to educate ALL equally.
Yet American schools are rated 38th in the world. Let that number sink in.
China is first. Russia beats us in Math.
Every business, institution and family needs to live within a budget. Why doesn’t our government?
Our nation’s debt has now reached an astounding $23 trillion. Not only is that figure unsustainable, it is crushing the futures of our children.
Although America is experiencing record job creation and economic growth, our district has failed to benefit from it. Many in our cities are still struggling to make ends meet.
Do you really want a Washington bureaucrat deciding what medication, tests or procedures you can and cannot get, regardless of what your doctor says?
Because that is exactly what the Democrats are pushing on us.
Countries like Canada are constantly being lifted up as shining examples by the Democrats for what they envision healthcare for Americans to be.
While they praise the promise that these countries profess, they deliberately mislead you about the sad outcomes that eventually result.
Everyone knows drug costs are too high. No one should have to decide between needed medication or food. Never.
I look at the answer to this from a different direction because of my experience on experimental medication, which saved my eyesight.
I am pro-life.
I also believe that, as a society, we must come together and decide at what point is it about something more than a woman's body?
We are beginning to witness a troubling trend of our institutions encroaching on parental rights. Despite the fact 93% of Americans believe “parents have the constitutional right to make decisions for their children without government interference, unless there’s proof of abuse or neglect.”
The only way to achieve American Exceptionalism for ALL Americans is to educate ALL equally.
Yet American schools are rated 38th in the world. Let that number sink in.
China is first. Russia beats us in Math.
The drop in our students’ ranking coincides with slashes in America’s education funding. And just last month, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy slashed school funding in Jersey City.
In some cities in our district, 80% of boys and nearly 70% of girls cannot read or do math at a proficient level. What kind of future will they have?
This is what happened under 70 years of continual Democratic leadership in our district.
It's time for a change. Let’s make our children a priority in Washington!
I believe we must increase investment in education. The only way to lift people out of poverty is with a strong education.
We must hire, support and reward good teachers.
No child’s quality of education should depend upon where they live. Children in low income districts must be given the same level of education as the schools our leaders send their children to. In order to create true equality, we must provide equal education to every child.
Charter schools should be an option for all children in low income areas. But do not take that money away from already failing public schools. That only perpetuates the problem.
We must make STEM education a priority to maintain our competitiveness around the world.
We need to ensure there are safe, quality after school programs and activities, so no child falls through the cracks because their parents work. We spend $12 billion annually maintaining abandoned government buildings across the United States. Turn those buildings into after school centers and use that money to support them. This should be common sense.
We need to better supervise how education funds are used, spending more on teaching and less on bureaucracy. We also must hold local officials accountable. How schools operate is important. If schools teach from the same textbooks, why do some fail and others succeed? We need to learn why.
Every business, institution and family needs to live within a budget. Why doesn’t our government?
Our nation’s debt has now reached an astounding $23 trillion. Not only is that figure unsustainable, it is crushing the futures of our children. Everyone in Washington complains about it, but it's still rising. President Obama added $9 trillion. President Trump added $2 trillion before the coronavirus.
Just a few outrageous wastes are:
-$12 billion annually to maintain vacant government buildings.
-$100 Million to determine how to avoid $5.8 Million in fraudulent charges on government credit cards.
-$2 million intern program where only one full time intern was hired.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, more. This needs to end! I will demand a balanced budget that eliminates wasteful spending and finally brings down our national debt.
Although America was experiencing record job creation and economic growth before the coronavirus shut down our nation, our district failed to benefit from it. Many in our cities are still struggling to make ends meet.
While Congressman Payne Jr. was renaming a post office and trying to establish councils, other congressmen brought manufacturing plants and thousands of jobs to their districts. We need a congressman who will fight to bring jobs back to New Jersey for our residents!
Donald Payne Jr. has been in his father’s job for over eight years now, and he is still talking about what he will do. But what has he actually done?
Jen will also fight to:
· Expand urban enterprise zones in our local neighborhoods. Provide support for the opening of small businesses which, in turn, will increase jobs, provide apprenticeships, and help our youth learn the skills they need to compete in the workforce.
· Bring manufacturing jobs back to New Jersey. We were once the leader in pharmaceutical manufacturing across the world. The coronavirus outbreak is a rude awakening as to why we need to make our drugs here in New Jersey again!
This issue hits close to home for me, and I am uniquely qualified to come at the issue from a patient’s side of it.
I have autoimmune uveitis. Through this illness, I gained a renewed appreciation for what science and doctors can achieve when given the opportunity. And what their limitations are, especially when hindered by bureaucracy.
Do you really want a Washington bureaucrat deciding what medication, tests or procedures you can and cannot get, regardless of what your doctor says? Because that is exactly what the Democrats are pushing on us.
And to make it even worse, they want to take away private health insurance. I cannot comprehend why any union would support Democrats for this single reason alone. Unions fight hard to get the best health insurance for their members. Why would you vote for anyone who vows to steal it from you?
I support part of what’s in the Affordable Care Act. But the Affordable Care Act is anything but affordable!
Like President Trump and the Republican Party, I believe we need to protect coverage for those with preexisting conditions.
I believe parents should be able to extend coverage for their children up to 26 years old.
I believe we need to allow insurance companies to cross state lines, opening competition, giving them greater bargaining power and lowering costs for patients.
We need to preserve and protect Medicare for our seniors and disabled Americans. But did you know there’s actually a law making it illegal for Medicare and Medicaid to negotiate lower drug costs? There is also a law making it illegal for insurance companies to sell a secondary insurance plan to anyone who qualifies for Medicaid, even if that plan would be cheaper. Why not open up the competition?
But what we do not need is Medicare for All forced upon us while being stripped of our private health coverage.
Countries like Canada are constantly being lifted up as shining examples by the Democrats for what they envision healthcare for Americans to be.
While they praise the promise that these countries profess, they deliberately mislead you about the sad outcomes that eventually result.
On average, people in these countries wait 4 weeks to obtain a CAT scan, 11 weeks for an MRI, and 4 weeks for a basic ultrasound.
The wait time for orthopedic surgery is 42 weeks. Yes that is not a typo. There is a 42 week wait for surgery. The majority of those people end up with permanent disabilities because of the wait.
They wait 10 weeks for an initial appointment with a specialist, then another 10 weeks for the beginning of any type of basic treatment.
These inhumane wait times result in poor outcomes compared to America’s healthcare system, and often serious consequences. They turn treatable, reversible illnesses into chronic, lifelong conditions or permanent disabilities. Not taking into account the missed work during the lengthy wait and resulting economic cost.
And what about their wonderful drug plans the Democrats praise?
They only cover the cheapest generic drug available for a condition. They do not cover new drugs. So that $30 bottle of insulin the Democrats use as a prime example? Go to your local Walmart and ask the pharmacist. Here in America, we can buy it for $27.
The Democrats purposely mislead us by comparing that generic bottle with the newest, and yes expensive, pen injector insulin that Medicare charges $400 because they cannot negotiate lower prices. Other insurance providers in America, who do negotiate, charge $15 for it.
What the Democrats are also hiding from you is the outrageous taxes people in these countries pay. Significantly higher than Americans pay. And on top of these insane tax rates, their FREE healthcare only covers 50-75% of the costs. They must pay the rest. So it is not actually free!
But let’s allow the Democrats to take our insurance from us and force everyone onto Medicare. No thank you Congressman Payne Jr!
Everyone knows drug costs are too high. No one should have to decide between needed medication or food. Never.
I look at the answer to this from a different direction because of my experience on experimental medication, which saved my eyesight.
We must not hinder pharmaceutical research. Our lives literally depend on it. So when figuring out how to lower drug costs, we must look at the entire process.
Every drug that comes to market costs on average $2 billion in research and development.
7 out of 8 drugs fail to get approval.
How do you think companies recoup the cost of those 7 failed drugs?
So when someone tells you a pill costs pennies to make, they are deliberately misleading you. It may cost that to manufacture a pill, but that’s after already spending around $16 billion on researching and developing those 8 drugs.
And guess what happens after a drug is finally approved?
After putting up that much money, the company is given only 7-8 years to recoup the cost and make a profit before the government gives their formula to generic companies. Even worse, generic companies are allowed to petition for the right to steal a few years off that time. Which makes drug companies raise the cost of their drugs even higher.
However, if we extend the patent period on the condition they charge generic prices, this gives us reasonably priced medication and allows the company who spent decades developing it to recoup their cost at a more modest rate. Win, win.
We also must allow Medicare and Medicaid to negotiate for lower prices. That is simply common sense.
The bill Congressman Payne Jr. supported doesn’t pass the negotiated savings on to you. He wants to give that money right back to the companies through NIH for research. I am all for giving NIH the funding they need to discover desperately needed cures. But that’s the circular maneuvering of a true politician!
I am pro-life.
I also believe that, as a society, we must come together and decide at what point does it become about something more than her body?
When Democrats demand, “A woman can have an abortion until the moment of birth,” do they understand what they are saying?
Did you ever wonder how they abort that baby?
Democrats like shouting about science, but when it contradicts their views, they simply ignore it. It is established fact that a fetus can feel pain by five months. So much so, that by law the fetus must be anesthetized during surgery… unless you’re aborting it. Then they can rip it limb from limb without anesthesia. How is that compassionate? Are women told this before having the abortion?
I believe in the sanctity of life. But just like my Christian faith, I cannot force someone to believe as I do. However, I do believe that as a society we must demand killing babies that can survive outside the mother’s womb is not okay. We must make that choice together!
The Democrats distort the truth and say women only have late term abortions under severe circumstances like the mother’s health. That has been studied and proven wrong. Many of the women who have a late term abortion do so for financial reasons. This is not an acceptable reason to kill a baby that can survive outside the mother’s womb.
I will fight to protect our unborn babies. Vote for me and say no to partial birth abortions.
I will also oppose policies that force taxpayers to fund abortion or force healthcare workers to provide abortion services.
According to a 2010 Zogby poll, 93% of Americans agree that “parents have the constitutional right to make decisions for their children without government interference, unless there’s proof of abuse or neglect.” However, we are beginning to witness a troubling trend of our institutions encroaching on that right. Particularly with respect to what should be political issues.
Despite what some public schools and healthcare agencies insist, the U.S. Supreme Court consistently upholds parents’ rights. For example:
· Pierce v. Society of Sisters, 268 U.S. 510 (1925) - The fundamental theory of liberty upon which all governments in this Union repose excludes any general power of the State to standardize its children... The child is not the mere creature of the State.
· Moore v. East Cleveland, 431 U.S. 494 (1977) - Our decisions establish that the Constitution protects the sanctity of the family precisely because the institution of the family is deeply rooted in this Nation's history and tradition. It is through the family that we inculcate and pass down many of our most cherished values, moral and cultural.
· Washington v. Glucksburg, 521 U.S. 702 (1997) - In a long line of cases, we have held that, in addition to the specific freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights, the "liberty" specially protected by the Due Process Clause includes the rights . . . to direct the education and upbringing of one's children.
· Wisconsin v. Yoder, 406 U.S. 205 (1972) - The history and culture of Western civilization reflect a strong tradition of parental concern for the nurture and upbringing of their children. This primary role of the parents in the upbringing of their children is now established beyond debate as an enduring American tradition.
· Troxel v. Granville, 530 U.S. 57, at 65-6 (2000) - In light of this extensive precedent, it cannot now be doubted that the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment protects the fundamental right of parents to make decisions concerning the care, custody, and control of their children.
When elected to Congress, I promise to protect these rights and stand against any legislation that violates them.
